Dirty Science Records
The origins of Dirty Science Records date back to 1994 with the release of deejay/producer Exile’s debut mixtape, Dream Sequence. He dropped a number of followup mixtapes over the ensuing years, many featuring his partner in the duo Emanon, rapper/singer Aloe Blacc. The two young artists—Exile was 18 and Aloe was a mere 16 years old at the time—would then sell their tapes outside of L.A. venues so they could afford to press their own vinyl.
It was through this hustle and love for the culture that Dirty Science Records was born. With Exile at the helm, both as label head and go-to producer, the label went on to release several indie-rap classics like Blu & Exile’s ‘Below the Heavens’ and Fashawn’s ‘Boy Meets World.’ These projects, among others, represented Dirty Science Records’ goal to uphold the artform to its highest standard.
With a roster featuring Blu & Exile, Fashawn, Emanon, Choosey, and other acclaimed acts, Dirty Science Records remains a preeminent indie label with many new chapters coming to their fabled story.
